The infrastructure we need are automated transport lanes

Traffic lanes in which the human is physically barred from manual driving.  That allows us to run rapid bus and truck at speeds between 100 and 120 MPH.

Infrastructure costs are very low, that's the problem.  Possibly some improved paving and some concrete barriers.  Add in some digital way points, and the bots are free to run.  I have a hard time finding un-profitability in these projects, Government needs to allocate a lane, then get out of the way; just collect fees, earn some dough for the local taxpayers.  Re-use the older highways, the bots can handle street lights cover human crossing as needed.   The new sysyem will draw traffic from the old, making more space available.

In Fresno, the plan is to steal all the High Speed Raail right of way, and re-use it for automated lane.  It will connect to our major UPS distribution center, and we are planning to build automated inroads, into the center of town.  The city council figures we will get a huge technology gain, being so closed to Geekdom, so the numbers come in as a huge win for Fresno taxpayers.  We are planning a big convention for all the  Geeks and Mechanics to show off their latest automated mass transports.  Contact the mayors office for details.

How do we secure the system?

We, humans, write a driver's manual in Spanish.  The bots have to read it and pass the automated driving test.  It will be Spanish because we are going to do this in California, and Spanish is our official language.
