Light trail does not always mean steel rail, in olden times it was wooden rail. I can make rils out of cardboard, I can make a mechanical white line following contraption, using cardboard. All of these solutions, rail and light.
A better solution, go to the foundry where they ake steel rail, grab the micro processor controlled roller system; and leave the steel. Install that on a bus, you get light rail, just paint a straight white line. How did we get stuck with steel? The exciting part about silicon rail, at the destination the bus driver can drive the thing through town, then back to the rail bed.
