A Fedeal judge slaps a restriction on freedom of speech

Judge Amy Berman Jackson has placed a gag order on this trial and admonished all parties not to “try the case on the courthouse steps” adding, “This is a criminal trial, not a public relations campaign.”

This is Manafort, conspiring with Putin to write an op ed in English papers, last week.   The judge can do this because Congress gave them all wits power, the power to issue any writ or remand in support of federal law. Congress did this 250 years ago or so.

Congress never had that right to give away. It was never the case that Congress could restrict freedom of speech (except non-disclosure agreements with a volunteer agent).  How did he judiciary grab this power never granted?
