I don't get complexity theory

Kling induces me to look it up, I go to Wiki. I get this:

Open, dynamic, non-linear systems, far from equilibrium

My problem is 'far from equilibrium'. I don't think so, the street in front of my house is quite equilibriated, been there for over 60 years. We have equilibriated around cars and computers; not horses and adding machines. We do equilibriate, otherwise we could never get stable production.
