Transit and traffic information

Google announced Friday that public transit information for the Washington area will now be integrated with Google Maps.

By typing in an origin and destination, and then clicking on the icon of a train, Google Transit will route the directions via public transportation.National Journal

This is a job for XML standard markup for transit schedules. Transportation might start looking at this proposal for an XML schedule standard. My recommendation, transit planners e mail each other and make posts about what is needed.

Waiting in uncertain places for uncertain transit events is a waste of uncertainty. The future is now, the smart handhelds will buy you a route through the maze, and transportation agencies need to have a handle on sharing information.
