Using a definition of freedom that comes from democracy, New York and California are the least free. Yglesias has some dispute that lack of democracy is not freedom.
Yglesias is a simple thinker. California has these great metropolitan areas. New Hampshire has a pretty good metropolitan area with two Senators taking care of its business in DC. Los Angeles has something like 1/200 of a Senator. Which is likely to be freer?
