This is mostly about culture, 'we are not of your stock.' Different founders, different language, different geography, different neighbors. Somewhere California is drifting away, again. Trump is North Atlantic, Yawker. He isn't racist, he just don't like California and the feeling is common back there. To them, California is like this huge potential boat anchor, a Venezuela in their midst.
