The Umpteenth newspaper editorializes against Jerry and the Brownshirts.

CALIFORNIA'S Legislature is back in session for the next four weeks after its mid-summer recess, and while you'll be forgiven your failure to toast its return at the family dinner table last night, hope springs eternal.

Our state has myriad governance problems to address, and if we had effective, transparent upper and lower houses filled with responsible electeds in Sacramento, that would be the place to get the people's work done.

Public pension reform, one of the state's largest among many fiscal issues, unfortunately seems to be off Gov. Jerry Brown's near-term agenda, and he's the one who would have to sign off on any legislation addressing the problem. Whittier News
