California environmentalists spend nearly a barrel of oil per new rail passenger

This chart shows the computed subsidy in LA, and note that buses are far more efficient.  This number is cost of infrastructure per new passenger, not the per ride subsidy.

The per ride subsidy varies from $3 in San Francisco to $5 in Santa Clara county.  Roughly one gallon of gas.  Amtiplanner computes the per mile subsidy, capital and operating costs, at over $2 per mile, for rail compared to about a 1 for bus.  Capital costs for automobile is about a nickel/mile, and roads charges about a nickel/mile.. (If I did the math using average car age, in miles, gas taxes and car costs)

The conclusion is simple, light rail is a CO2 disaster, promoted by clueless environmentalists in California.
