Can we have free banking without specie?

I like the Selgin article on Free Banking, but can we do it without a precious metal? I dunno, still working on the problem.

Speaking of central banking, look what the Canadian banker says:

He noted that over a dozen countries are accumulating reserves at double-digit annual rates, and countries representing more than 40% of the U.S. dollar trade weight are now managing their currencies.

These dozen countries are attempting a Super Central Banker channel, how and why? George, we have more work to do!
