Black Swanned by California

Dan Walters and I have the shivers:

Last year was a very good one for the state’s economy. The 3.3 percent gain in economic output in 2016 was more than double that of the nation as a whole and one of the highest of any state. However, California stumbled during the first half of 2017. California’s increase was an anemic six tenths of one percent in the first quarter compared to the same period of 2016, and 2.1 percent in the second quarter, well below the national rate and ranking 35th in the nation. The report revealed that almost every one of California’s major sectors fell behind national trends in the second quarter, with the most conspicuous laggard being manufacturing.

And it's election year.  California has to  come up with some 30 billion  to make up the tax losses.  Jerry  has raised taxes some five times. But he is up against a huge, inflation adjusted liability in pensions.

So,  to say his gas taxes are global warming taxes is horse manure, he got the sign wrong.  Then his legislature has invited the world to come for free medical care.

Then to the horror of us all, we get Diane demanding we abandon cash! And lying about the senate committee. Our next governor dates teenagers.  Nothing has stopped the freight train of inflation adjusted government payouts.

When California pops we get this huge swing in unemployment, several years long and a huge drag on the economy.  Illinois will be swamped.
