I have my data base working in the lab. Here is how it works.
My database works with lists of things on the web that can be sent to a spreadsheet. My spread sheet also assumes there exists a code identifying the unique spread sheet, and that some list exists that define the fields of this code.
Beyond that, it works like Google. The economists types in a set of economic the words, and the search returns a list of possible data codes, which the user can narrow down.
Within the R Stat project environment, then the economist can search for data lists, not necessarily unique, and load a list of of data lists. R can plot all or part of the list, print out text about the lists, or perform some statistics on the list
Simple, useful..
