Right, Roger has the blue lines bouncing up and down with the grey bars. The question is, why not have smaller, more frequent cycles? As I often comment, since 1981, the cycles seem to occur with presidential elections. And, to be more precise, they mostly started that behavior in 1971 when we had the Nixon Shock. We also see that in 1960 when we were carpet bombing Viet Nam. The cycles become more aligned with elections as debt increases.
So, more frequent but smaller cycles, as in, can DC adjust its budget priorities on a three year basis rather than an eight year basis? And if not, then could we please disband the union before the Swamprats commit some horror? Electing politicians to some distant swamp and have them screw up our lives? Why?
