Once we collectively agree to CO2 control, then we have made a long term agreement in maintaining an equilibrium temperature. The ice cores tell us that humans wants a temperature a degree or so cooler, closer to the mid-ice age temperature. The only way to bounce safely around the ice core mean is large scale CO2 control, and that means some efficient algae farming with associated carbon storage. Not much, a thousand square miles is enough breathing space for the US. But it takes genetic breakthrough in algae and cleaner, large scale aqua farming.
See, but we are stuck, since we claim the answer, then we have an equilibrium temperature, and the math tells us what it is over the ice ages. We are not allowed to keep the holocene.
