Roger Farmer's discovery, corporations do the hiring
I inverted the SP500 index and scaled it (red) to the unemployment rate, blue. They match.
Do they ci-integrate to some third variable? That is, maybe corporations and unemployment just go along with an improving economy for some other reason.
I doubt it, I think corporations do the hiring these days. Corporate profits are 11% of GDP, so corporate expenses are a much larger percentage of GDP., in fact most of it though, there will be double counting if we just invert the P/E ratio. We live in a corporate economy, mom and pop stores are dying. So also are retail banks dying along with.
Should we care?
Well, one has to ask why corporations are more efficient before we can answer that.
