A major teachers union is claiming that the re-opening of schools in its district cannot occur without several substantial policy provisions in place, including a "moratorium" on charter schools and the defunding of local police.Let the union battle begin.
United Teachers Los Angeles, a 35,000-strong union in the Los Angeles Unified School District, made those demands in a policy paper it released this week. The organization called on local authorities to "keep school campuses closed when the semester begins on Aug. 18."
Who are these teachers?
The next generation teachers that got shafted in the pension 'reform' of Jerry Brown. Most economists, except from UC, knew the two teired union deal never works, and these same new teachers are the ones who went on strike. They are the one who got ripped off by the boomers, now they are going to raise hell for a long time. This is pure corruption by the UC professors, they knerw this was an unsustainable deal, so did Jerry Brown. Mayor Garcetti and Newsom are stuck with the mess and neither has a clue how to get out.
Worse, the small state governors have no clue that this battle is rapidly becoming a national battle as NYC and Illinois are stuck in the same boat. In the end it is a nasty, long term tax battle stuttered with slow growth and deflation for a long time, until we have a sudden overnight default. We are engaging in exactly the disaster the 'This time is different' crowd created. It could be worse than Nixon's Shock, but we certainly hope not.
