Fighting the last war

Rare Footage Captures MiG Tactical Drills In The Lower Stratosphere

Bots do it cheaper, scale to mass production, deployable anywhere. If it has wings, the RC  plane folks have it duplicated at fifth scale. RC planes have a speed record, 450 MPH, and the plane was three square feet. Hunting big metal objects against a blank sky is easy, then they swarm, the human cockpit cannot make the needed turn and pilots die. It is a bot war, it is one plane and a hundred bot regiment of autonomous flyers.

In the air, one B52 hangs back, it is packed with a thousand drones. Forward F35 observers find the enemy with recon flyers, then the B52 sets up, like an aircraft carrier, and releases a fleet of flyers, programmed to go to a specific spot and kill metal flying objects.  It is not long before pilots get a clue and hang back at the coffee shop during war.
