Their work is the first of its kind. Previous efforts to model human vision made wishful assumptions about the architecture of the visual cortex. Young, Shapley and Chariker’s work accepts the demanding, unintuitive biology of the visual cortex as is — and tries to explain how the phenomenon of vision is still possible. This is a Quanta article about vision, we do not have a pixel map. The new research has a model, but the article does not yet say what the model is.
It is about eye movement. A recognized object is a sequence of edges and corners that leads the eye through a familiar movement pattern. Our brain is comparing eye 'generators' columns of cells that generate eye movement are tested against the current sequence of corners and edges. Just like an S/L tech, it is an options market and the nerve firings are transactions completing.
The visual decision is forced by channel packing, a solution must be picked, it is often an optical illusion. The illusion works by collapsing e dimension and making to separate patterns appear the same.
The brain is a muscle, muscle movement is what it deals with, mostly, all the time. Thought is a muscle firing sequence delayed.
