Defense Secretary Mark Esper condemned Turkey’s invasion of Syria as “unwarranted” and said it jeopardized security gains the US-led coalition and Kurdish forces made in the fight against the Islamic State terror group over the past five years.Basically we are on Turkey's side in this. the Defense Department can be damned. I suggest a bigger retreat.
“Turkey put us all in a very terrible situation,” Esper told a conference in Brussels on Thursday before a meeting of NATO defense ministers.
He said there are multiple crises in the Middle East and Turkey’s “unwarranted incursion into Syria” to attack the Kurds risks sapping “resources” in the region.
“There are new threats on the horizon that we ignore at our own peril,” he added.
Esper also said Turkey is “heading in the wrong direction” by carving out a “safe zone” in northern Syria and agreeing to a deal with Russia to jointly patrol the territory.
The Kurds have bargaining power, they hold part of Northern Iraq, a failed state, as well as part of Syria, another failed state. Why not do a deal with the Syrian Army, the Kurds keep part of Iraq, recover Norther border with the Syrian army, then incorporate the gains into a larger Syria, forcing Iraq to be what is is, a corrupt hell whole.
