Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer wants to sneak a big tax break for the wealthy into a massive spending bill.
The New York Democrat's proposed $3.5 trillion spending bill includes "SALT cap relief" as a priority. By that, Schumer means lifting the cap on the state and local tax deduction. The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 capped the SALT deduction at $10,000 per year.
This part throws a wrench into the reconciliation.
