Consider the opposite

President Donald Trump evidently thinks they can. And though some have dismissed his remarks on the subject as absurd, Trump does have a point: If enough people think a recession will happen, it will.

Consider the case that we had a recession and few people thought about it.  That would be a violation of the Blue Bar dating committee, they cannot declare a recession until most people are thinking about it.

The post relies the Schiller theory of maniacal  humans, which is hogwash. This theory gives carte blanche for economists to harass us with infinite punditry,  has no relationship to the science of economics.

This is also the theory of bogus expectations, the idea that we can be expected into a situation by harassment.
