Exxon is lobbying for a carbon tax. There is, obviously, a catch.
The post claims that Exxon wants exclusion from climate change liability. But the cities suing Exxon are unqualified for damages since they almost all CO2 usage, and still do. Tort will ultimately fix this problem.
The real issue is VOX itself which will be advocating that we spend the carbon tax money on subsidized carbon consumption. Government's job is to intervene and subsidize. In a world constrained by climate change, government inevitably supports carbon inefficiency, as will VOX, you can be sure of that.
VOX cannot accept that the real solution is a Tort law that forces all this litigation into tort court. This solution does not leave government with excess taxes that is uses to support inefficient carbon consumption.
