TOE and linux

Walmart just figured out a way to get goods in its 5,000-plus US stores up to 5 days sooner. Here's how the retail giant is implementing the system.

Treat the logistics network as a series of delivery channels, then find the quantizations that best minimize the number of packages and uses existing truck fleet.  That should replace each of the isolated channels with a typical channel, a directed graph. Then minimize routes through the typical delivery schedules.

The shortcut here is to get the checkout counter flow stablized, then compute coherent package sizes backwards. The stable queue size make inventory turnover work as arelative ratio and the package sizes in each department aggregated back.

Linux,linux,linux

Walmart is doubling down on private-label tech and selling its own tablets

Take the Linux kernel, it comes with a company selling Void linux, add just enough functionality, test it against commodity hardware,... Walmart hired a geek sometime back after fouling their first try at on line transactions.  Linux e doing this forever, and I await the moment Walmart brands its own game box based on void linux, direct rendering, seperatate IO manager, etc. Break up XWindows, dump the hieroglyphics, go with plain text.
