It is most likely Yglesias who is ignorant

The government is shutting down because Donald Trump doesn’t know what he’s doing

Trump knows well we are shutting down, as did Clinton, Reagan and Obama.  We shut down in prelude to sequester so we can get a visible Congressional budget.  Yglesias fails to read the chart, he is so engrossed in the Vox talking points memo. 

Here is the chart:

Yglesias, the chart is the rising cost of interest payments, rising 10% a year for three years.  The rest of the budget items are rising at 3% a year, except they are not visible.  It is impossible for Congress to budget at all when interest costs rise at such a fast pace.

Hence we shut down, collect taxes and build up reserves to cover the enormous debt rang up by the authors of your talking points memo. Does ur yglesias see the pattern?  tiny recession after Clinton went sequestering and  achieved the ongest growth.  The look, the Obama sequester worked too, for a while.  Get it? Both presidents tossed the talking points memo in the trash.

The plot in the sandbox is to make shutdowns happen more often at lighter amountas, like doing tiny shutdowns now and then.  Thus we do not have to pay the volatility costs associated with the pro-cyclical policies in the Yglesias talking points memo.
