Handling the encryption debate according to Carnegie institute

Moving the Encryption Policy Conversation Forward

They have too many rules, so I take the top three:
  • AVOID ABSOLUTIST POSITIONS
  • FRAME THE DEBATE AS A SHARED CONCERN
  • RECOGNIZE THAT SECURITY TAKES MANY FORMS AND IS INTERTWINED WITH PRIVACY AND EQUITY
I have not been absolutist and recognize that NSA has some input and also some contradictions to resolve.  And, yes, it is a shared concern, it has to do with a more fundamental issue, letting the bots have curtailed freedom from human interference.  And of course, security takes many forms as I have noticed the debate on Smart ID goes way beyond money technology.

But the debate takes longer than we expected, and technology is moving forward. The sandbox is happening regardless of what Tim Cook can get done with the NSA.
