The claim is that there is excess space curvature, and somewhere, that space curvature is being buried, somehow, so free space is flatter and needs fewer lines of symmetry to hold units of spectra. Where is the excess space curvature going? Space curvature is potential energy, it is conserved. Where does it go? It causes each galaxy to move along a path mutually orthogonal to every other galaxy, we are all moving away from each other. To create that line of symmetry, gravity has to be curving up between galaxies and flattening out everywhere else. But that is impossible, because they tell us that light from each and every galaxy is following a flatter path, hence the red shift. But, actually just the opposite should be occurring, light arriving at our galaxy from any other galaxy should be lensed by the gravity bulge in between. They have some explaining to do.
There is no theory know of that hypothesizes a spacetime field, sorry.
