• degradar   - to degrade
• agradar  - to please
• desagradar - to displease

Then we get gradar which is to hoe.

I use flash cards. And when I can find the closest english version like convenecer and convince, then I know I have a root in latin and both spanish and english took nearly the same route. Like power and poder must have nearly, but not quite the same path.  But I can guess that most of the spanish verbs with poder must be of the same latin root. From there the prefix and suffixes standard define variations.
