Kevin Drum, deliberately dumbing himself down

American Airlines says:

Jan 29:

Given the significant decline in demand for travel to and from China, American will suspend travel between LAX and Shanghai Pudong Airport (PVG) as well as LAX and Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK) from Feb. 9 through Mar. 27, 2020.

Jan 31:

Based on the U.S. Department of State’s recent increase of the China Travel Advisory to a Level 4 (Do Not Travel), American is suspending its operations to and from the Chinese mainland beginning today through March 27. Our teams are contacting affected customers directly to accommodate their needs. We will continue to evaluate the schedule for March 28 and beyond and make any adjustments as necessary.

NY Times claim:

Moving to counter the spreading coronavirus outbreak, the Trump administration said Friday that it would bar entry by most foreign nationals who had recently visited China and put some American travelers under a quarantine as it declared a rare public health emergency. The temporary restrictions followed announcements by American Airlines, Delta Air Lines and United Airlines that they would suspend air service between the United States and China for several months.

So that makes the NY Times a bunch of liars.

But Kevin Drum, Mr. Priors does not check the facts and accepts the hogwash hook line and sinker, because it proves his priors.  Kevin Drum has the Menzie problem, knee jerk first and think later.

In fact, among the Godot crowd there is a whole bunch of incomplete analysis going on, with Krugman and the rest of the crew. They cannot help themselves and have become increasingly useless in trying to sort this shit out. They take the analysis up to their priors and stop, useless  scientists.

You need to put the mathematicians in charge during this crisis.
