Elizabeth Warren’s housing bill has received a lot of love from those who favor of land use liberalization. Like Cory Booker’s housing bill, the Warren bill would seek to encourage state and local land use reform using federal grants as an incentive. Warren’s bill would significantly increase funding for the Housing Trust Fund and provide a small increase in allocations for public housing maintenance. However, Warren’s bill also includes new subsidies to homeownership and policies that could reduce the production of new renter-occupied housing relative to owner-occupied housing. And this volatile mess will collide with Gavin's volatile mess in housing policy. Now California is specifically involved in the election, housing policy clash is a real threat. And, by the way, Bernie and Medicare for All clashes with Gavin's CaliObamaCare for all, and that needs thrashing out. Amid all of this, the unions are striking everywhere. Gavin needs another 1% of GDP in taxes to cover the wave of LA immigrants, else he be stuck with teacher and nurse strikes. The previous LA strike is not yet paid for, the local politicians still looking for new taxes. If not found soon, the LAUSD has to default to the state anyway. Education rearing its head everywhere in the elections, to the benefit of Kamala.
