Kevin Drum posted the chart, but is unlikely to name the cause as that is contra the 'Talking Point'
LA Times report the upsurge in frustration in late 2018. It is happening across city councils everywhere is seems. In California, New York, and the Swamp, all extra spending proposals come with much high interest charges or sales taxes or a long drawn out battle with the Swamp over income taxes. Elected representatives are stuck.
The fundamentals tells us that without discretionary funds, government cannot exist, and we can see that city council meetings are increasingly difficult to have, money is gone.
I can see the same effect in my town, Fresno. Money is drying up everywhere, most if it going to state and local taxes to pay for unfunded obligations. Unemployment rates around here have risen just a tad, I hear. Though it is not in the stats.
